Accessibility

We want your whole team to use Kitchfly comfortably: the rushed server on a tablet, the kitchen reading from a few feet away, people who prefer the keyboard, and people who use a screen reader. Kitchfly follows the WCAG 2.1 level AA guidelines, and every release goes through an automated accessibility check of its main screens.

Use Kitchfly with the keyboard

You can do everything without a mouse:

Key What it does
Tab / Shift+Tab Moves forward or back between buttons, fields and tables. You always see a colored outline around where you are.
Enter or Space Activates the button or opens the selected row (for example, a recipe in the list).
Esc Closes the open window (modifiers, discounts, support) or the phone menu. Focus goes back to where you were.
Arrow keys Scroll long tables when they're focused.

The first time you press Tab on any admin screen, Skip to content appears; it jumps straight to the screen and skips the menu.

While a window is open, Tab stays inside it, so you don't end up on something behind it.

Large text and zoom

  • You can zoom text up to 200% (Ctrl + / Cmd + on a computer, or pinch on tablets and phones) and screens rearrange without getting cut off.
  • Kitchfly respects the text size you set on your device:
    • iPhone / iPad: Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size.
    • Android: Settings → Display → Font size.

Colors and contrast

  • Text and buttons have enough contrast to read in bright light, like on a patio or next to a window.
  • Color is never the only signal: food cost shows the percentage next to the green/yellow/red bar, statuses have text (Active, Void, Comp), and in the POS taken tables have a dashed border as well as the red color.
  • If you turn on Reduce motion on your device, Kitchfly removes animations.

Screen readers

  • Every form field has a name, every screen has its own title ("Recipes · Kitchfly"), and the page declares its language (English or Spanish) so the reader pronounces it correctly.
  • Error and confirmation messages (for example Request saved or a charge error) are announced automatically.
  • POS tables are announced with their status: Table 4: free, Table 2: taken by another order.
